Even though the world is facing a tremendous ecological crisis the response to it is so weak. According to the Pope the failure of global summits on the environment makes it plain that our politics is subservient to technology and finance. There are too many special interests, and economic interests easily end up trumping the common good and manipulating information, their own plans and interests are kept unaffected (LS, 54). The Pope strongly criticizes the present day tendencies of the international systems towards ecology. However, he sees the potentiality of humankind to rise above them selves, choosing again what is good, and making a new start, despite their mental and social conditioning (LS, 205).

In this process the NGOs which think globally and act locally play a vital role. In fact the Punalur Social Service Society in the last three decades has been rendering commendable service to the people in nook and corner of the three civil districts of Kerala namely Kollam, Alappuzha and Pathanamthitta. Its care for the disabled children and farmers are praise worthy. The style of PSSS is not only to work for the people but also work with the people thus it enkindles the latent potentiality of each and every person in the society.
